There are spiritual questions that go deeper than relationships, astrology, manifestation, or even the idea of a twin flame.
Questions like: What am I building inside myself?
What am I allowing into my life? What am I feeding? What am I choosing? And when my outer world begins reflecting my inner world, what exactly am I looking at?
This is where the ancient phrase “As Above, So Below” becomes especially interesting.
Within my spiritual framework, it speaks to a relationship between the higher and lower aspects of existence, between the spiritual and the physical, and between what is happening within us and what eventually becomes visible through our choices and our lives.
It also brings us face-to-face with something that cannot be outsourced: free will.
What Does “As Above, So Below” Mean?
“As Above, So Below” is a spiritual principle that has been interpreted in different ways across esoteric and philosophical traditions.
For me, the phrase is not simply about attracting something from the universe. It is about recognizing a connection between the world above, the world below, and the world within.
What happens spiritually can influence how we understand our physical lives. What happens internally can influence the choices we make externally.
Your inner world is not a waiting room.
It is the place where choices are made, beliefs are reinforced, patterns are repeated, and spiritual direction begins to take shape.
Your Spiritual House
One of the ways I understand this concept is through the idea of a spiritual house.
Think of yourself as a house.
The foundation matters. The rooms matter. The levels matter. And the roof matters.
You cannot build a beautiful penthouse while ignoring a collapsing foundation.
In the same way, spiritual growth is not simply about reaching higher states of consciousness while refusing to examine the parts of ourselves that remain unresolved.
The Foundation
In chakra traditions, the root chakra is commonly associated with grounding, survival, safety, stability, and the physical foundation of life.
Within this spiritual framework, I see the root as the foundation of the house.
If the foundation is unstable, everything built above it can become difficult to maintain.
This is not a medical or scientific claim about the body. It is a spiritual framework for thinking about how foundational issues can affect our experience of growth.
The Levels Between
The middle levels of the spiritual house represent the many experiences we move through as human beings.
Love. Power. Identity. Communication. Relationships. Desire. Intuition. Personal truth.
Every level gives us another opportunity to examine what we are carrying into the next room.
Sometimes we want to jump straight to the top because the view from the roof looks beautiful.
But spiritual growth often asks us to walk through the house instead.
The Roof
In chakra traditions, the crown chakra is associated with spirituality, higher consciousness, connection, and transcendence.
Within the spiritual-house metaphor, the crown becomes the roof.
The roof represents the highest level of connection we are attempting to reach.
But a roof without a foundation is not a house.
That distinction matters.
Spiritual Growth Is Not About Escaping the House
Sometimes spirituality gets presented as an escape from ordinary human life.
Become more spiritual. Rise above it. Detach. Transcend. Leave the lower things behind.
But what if the goal is not to escape the house?
What if the goal is to build it properly?
To strengthen the foundation. Clean the rooms. Repair what has been damaged. Open the windows. Let the light in. And eventually stand on the roof with a clearer understanding of everything underneath you.
Good and Evil: The Choice Beneath the Choice
I do not view spirituality through the lens of men versus women, black versus white, or left versus right.
Those divisions can become distractions from a much older spiritual question: What are you choosing?
Within my spiritual beliefs, good and evil are real spiritual forces and the human soul has value.
I believe the spiritual struggle ultimately concerns the direction of the soul.
The Direction of Good
Truth, blessing, growth, love, responsibility, wisdom, restoration, and movement toward what is spiritually good.
The Direction of Destruction
Temptation, deception, separation from truth, destructive choices, and patterns that move a person away from what is spiritually good.
This is where free will becomes important.
Free Will Means Your Choices Matter
If every decision were predetermined, there would be little meaning in choosing.
Free will means that choices have weight.
You can recognize a pattern and continue it. You can recognize a pattern and interrupt it. You can see temptation and walk toward it. You can see temptation and walk away.
Spiritual information can illuminate a path. It cannot make the decision for you.
Astrology can describe a pattern. Tarot can provide reflection. Spiritual teachings can offer guidance. None of those things remove your responsibility for what you choose.
North Node and South Node: Familiarity vs. Growth
This is one reason the North Node and South Node can become such an interesting part of the conversation.
In astrology, the South Node is commonly interpreted as representing familiar patterns, tendencies, experiences, or behaviors that feel known.
The North Node is commonly interpreted as representing a direction of development, growth, or unfamiliar territory.
I view these placements as an interpretive lens rather than a commandment.
Your South Node does not mean you are doomed to repeat your past. Your North Node does not mean you are required to surrender your free will and obey a cosmic instruction manual.
Instead, the symbolism can give you something valuable to examine:
What feels familiar?
What patterns do you repeatedly return to because they are comfortable, recognizable, or emotionally familiar?
What requires growth?
What direction challenges you to become more intentional, conscious, responsible, or spiritually mature?
Spiritual Warfare Begins With the House Within
Spiritual warfare is another concept that I understand through this internal-house framework.
Within my spiritual interpretation, the battle is not simply something happening somewhere outside of us.
Temptation can enter through thoughts. Deception can enter through beliefs. Destructive patterns can become habits. Resentment can become a room we refuse to leave.
And eventually, what we repeatedly allow inside can influence what we build outside.
This is a spiritual interpretation, not a scientific or medical explanation of human behavior.
Temptation Does Not Always Look Like Destruction
One of the reasons spiritual discernment matters is because temptation does not always arrive looking terrible.
Sometimes it looks convenient.
Sometimes it looks like validation.
Sometimes it looks like getting exactly what you wanted.
Sometimes it sounds like: “You deserve this.”
The question is not simply whether something feels good in the moment.
The deeper question is: Where does this choice lead?
Consequences Are Part of Free Will
Free will does not mean freedom from consequences.
It means having the ability to choose.
Every choice creates movement.
Some choices create peace. Some create conflict. Some create growth. Some create repetition. Some build. Some destroy.
The consequence may not arrive immediately. That does not mean the choice had no consequence.
The spiritual house remembers what we repeatedly build inside it.
What becomes a habit today can become an environment tomorrow.
From Genesis to Revelation
When I look at the biblical story from Genesis through Revelation, I see an enormous spiritual arc concerning creation, choice, temptation, separation, redemption, judgment, restoration, and ultimately the direction of humanity.
Genesis introduces choice and temptation.
Throughout the biblical story, human beings repeatedly encounter decisions about obedience, truth, desire, responsibility, power, faith, and consequence.
Revelation brings the biblical narrative toward judgment, restoration, and the ultimate separation between what is aligned with God and what is opposed to Him.
Within my spiritual framework, this makes the human journey feel less like a random collection of events and more like a question of direction: What are you building, and what are you becoming?
What Are You Building Inside Yourself?
This is where the phrase As Above, So Below becomes personal.
Not because every difficult thing that happens to you is something you magically manifested.
Not because every painful experience is your fault.
And not because spirituality should be used to blame people for circumstances they did not choose.
Rather, the principle invites us to examine the part of our lives that is within our responsibility:
What are you allowing?
What beliefs are you entertaining?
What are you repeating?
Which patterns keep returning because they remain familiar?
What are you choosing?
Which direction are your decisions consistently moving you?
What are you building?
What kind of spiritual house are your choices creating?
As Above, So Below
Your spiritual journey is not simply about escaping what happened yesterday.
It is also about understanding what yesterday taught you, deciding what you will carry forward, and recognizing where your choices are taking you now.
The foundation matters. The rooms matter. The levels matter. The roof matters.
And so does the person making the decisions inside the house.
You.
“As Above, So Below” becomes more than a mystical phrase when we begin examining the relationship between our spiritual beliefs, our internal patterns, our choices, and the lives we are building.
The question is not simply, “What is meant for me?”
Sometimes the more powerful question is: “What am I choosing to build?”
